I think you have to give Elliott time. It's not like he took over a top 20
program. After many many years of futility, and that impact on recruiting particularly in state and nearby states, Bronco started to turn it around but it still takes time. And then COVID seemed to take a lot of steam out of it for him and his staff.
Not that the Hoos will ever be in the National discussion, but it's still realistic that they can consistently win 7-8+ games per year, get into the top 25 rankings from time to time, and finish in the upper part of the ACC (equivalent to Coastal Champ). Not like the ACC is loaded with a bunch of football factories with NIL to burn.
Now TBF I'm always the eternal optimist particularly when it comes to the Hoos, and I can certainly understand why so many are concerned given the first year, and lack of recruiting success. But I still believe Elliott is the right man for the very challenge job of being the Hoos football coach. No reason to assume he doesn't understand the game, how to build and develop a team, and the types of kids he has to recruit at UVA and how to appeal to them, in order to be successful. And the good news may be that the portal could actually help him shorten the time it takes him to get there. I can absolutely end up being wrong, but I'll hold on to that eternal optimism as long as I can. Not like I can just go root for someone else.
